Zhiyun has been making big moves in the lighting game lately. Alongside their G60, they’ve released the X100 — a compact but powerful light that packs a surprising punch for its size. After spending some time with it, I can say this is one of the more impressive small lights out there right now.
Pricing and Packages
The X100 comes in a few different versions depending on what you need:
Standard Version ($249 USD)
Includes the light, a mini reflector, power adapter, and organizer bag.Combo Version ($349 USD)
Everything from the Standard set, plus a Bowens mount adapter, grip battery, storage bag, and a light strap.Pro Version ($399 USD)
Adds a mini softbox on top of the Combo package.
There’s also a dome diffusion accessory sold separately if you want a softer look.
In my opinion, the Combo Version is the sweet spot. The battery grip is what makes this light stand out from the competition, giving you true portability without needing to stay plugged in.
Build Quality
This is a lightweight, compact light — only 385g on its own, and 824g with the battery attached. To put it into perspective, it’s about the size of a smartphone in terms of footprint.
The light uses Zhiyun’s new Zy Mount system, but you can still attach your existing Bowens mount modifiers with the included adapter. Zhiyun has also released a line of mini modifiers that pair really nicely with the X100.
Despite its size, the X100 feels very solid. No flimsy plastic here — it’s sturdy, well-built, and designed with creators in mind. The controls are straightforward, with knobs for brightness and color temperature, plus a small display screen.
Performance
For its size, this thing is bright. At one meter and 50% power, it outputs around 3881 lux — more than enough for most small setups. It also has a CRI of over 95, meaning it produces accurate colors, which is crucial for both photo and video work.
You can power the X100 three different ways:
With the detachable battery grip.
Plugged into the wall with DC power.
Via USB-C power supply.
At full power (100 watts), the battery lasts about 30 minutes. At lower brightness, you can stretch it further. Charging the grip takes roughly 2.5 to 3 hours.
Cooling is handled intelligently. The fan only kicks in when needed, and even then, it’s quiet enough that it won’t be an issue in most setups.
The X100 can also be controlled wirelessly, and multiple units can be linked together in “live mode” for more complex setups. There’s even a “music mode” that syncs lighting effects to audio — a fun bonus for creators.
Things to Keep in Mind
To adjust the angle, you’ll need an external ball head or mount. Unlike the G60, the X100 doesn’t have a built-in bracket.
The front can get hot after extended use, so avoid touching that area directly.
Who It’s For
The X100 is ideal for:
Filmmakers and photographers on the go.
Wedding shooters or small crews.
Content creators working in compact spaces.
Anyone looking for a lightweight, portable light with serious power.
Its portability combined with 100 watts of output makes it an excellent tool if you want professional lighting without hauling around heavy gear.
Final Thoughts
The Zhiyun X100 really shines as a portable, high-output light. Pair it with the battery grip and some of Zhiyun’s compact modifiers, and you’ve got a setup that’s flexible, powerful, and easy to take anywhere.
If you’re looking for a balance between portability and output, this light deserves a serious look — especially in the Combo package.
